Emergency-service personnel and volunteers gathered at Wexford Quay for National Services Day 2026, with the new Rescue 117 helicopter among the event's highlights.
Emergency-service personnel, volunteers and members of the public gathered in Wexford on Saturday, 5 September, to mark National Services Day 2026.
The celebrations began with a parade from Selskar through Wexford town, finishing at Wexford Quay. A ceremony and commemorative wreath-laying were followed by public displays featuring several frontline and voluntary emergency-service organisations.
One of the day's highlights was a demonstration involving the new Irish Coast Guard Rescue 117 helicopter. Children were also invited to participate in an Emergency Services Challenge designed to introduce them to important lifesaving skills.
Wexford was one of eight locations hosting National Services Day events across Ireland. Celebrations were also held in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Naas, Kilkenny and Drogheda.
National Services Day provides an opportunity to recognise the professionals and volunteers who protect, assist and support communities throughout Ireland.
