New Coastal Lifeboats Planned for Four Irish RNLI Stations
· EmergencyResponders.ie
Dún Laoghaire, Rosslare, Sligo Bay and Wicklow are scheduled to receive the RNLI's new Coastal Lifeboat class between 2028 and 2030.
Four Irish stations are scheduled to receive the RNLI's new Coastal Lifeboat class under the charity's fleet plans announced on 12 October.
Dún Laoghaire is listed for the new class in 2028, Rosslare in 2029, and Sligo Bay and Wicklow in 2030. These are planned future changes, rather than boats already delivered.
The RNLI says its fleet strategy responds to changing rescue demand, including more incidents involving swimmers, kayakers and paddleboarders close to shore. Decisions consider neighbouring stations and other rescue services, as well as each station's needs.
The programme combines new vessels and technology with changes to existing lifeboat classes. Its aim is to match rescue capability to demand while supporting the safety of volunteer crews.
